Even doctors get sick sometimes. Other times, actors playing doctors get sick of their jobs.
Even though ABC recently saved Scrubs from cancellation, the quirky sitcom is on the verge of a major cast turnover.
Judy Reyes, who plays Nurse Carla Espinosa, told Bloomberg.com that she plans to hang up her stethoscope after the sitcom's next season in order to focus on her film and stage career - and she suspects that some of the other cast members may be leaving for good, too. Cough Zach Braff cough!
"Their salaries exceed the budget of ABC and, I think, so do their ambitions," said the 40-year-old actress. "Mine do, too."
Although beloved by fans and critics, Scrubs had a tepid experience with NBC, which rarely promoted or supported it. When NBC declined to renew the show for an eighth season, ABC was waiting with open arms. Season 8 will premiere in either December 2008 or January 2009 and will include a one-hour special in which the cast travel to the Bahamas for the wedding of the hospital's janitor (Neil Flynn).
