Is anyone allowed to create a profile on PalZoo?
Anyone may sign-up to PalZoo free of charge. We have different accounts depending on what you would like to display on your profile page. Right now you may sign-up for a regular member account, a band account, an actor/actress account or a comedian account
Gallery
How do I upload my photos to the gallery?
You may upload your photos either by accessing the gallery from the menu bar on the site or via your account page. From the site click on "Gallery" in the menu bar. In your account page you can click on "Submit Items".
What format can my picture be in and what size does it allow?
We allow you to upload photos in the format jpg,gif or png. Make sure your photo is no bigger than 5000kb.
When I upload my photo it is asking me for "tags". What are tags?
Tags are like keywords. They are common descriptions used to describe your photo. When someone searches the site using the tags you entered, they will find your picture. So for example if you uploaded a photo of your favorite television show "Lost", you might want to use the following tags: Lost Evangeline Lily Matthew Fox Separate your tags by spaces and use tags that are relevant. With our example of "Lost" we have included tags for two of the main stars of the show.
Where does my photo appear after I upload it?
When you upload your photo you have the choice on who gets to view your picture. You may choose "everyone", this way it is visible in the site gallery for all to see. You may choose "friends", this way it appears only in your profile page gallery and only your friends may see it. Or you may choose for "nobody" to view your photo and this way it is only viewable to you and does not appear in the site gallery and it is not viewable by anyone, even your friends.
After I uploaded my photo, above the photo I now see "tags" "add tags" "hide tags" , what are these for?
After you have uploaded a photo, you can then add different types of tags to your photos. You can add as many tags to one photo as you like. Simply click on "add tag" , use the guideline on the photo to specify what in the photo you are tagging. Enter the content of the tag (description) and the username of the user at PalZoo that you are tagging. Basically this function allows you to tag other users or celebrities that are in photos. For example - You have uploaded a photo of the cast of the television show "Friends". After uploading you can then tag each of the people in the photo with the username at PalZoo such as "Courteney Cox" "Matthew Perry" and specify each of them in the photo. As you are typing in a username to tag, you should see a list of your friends appearing in a drop-down to choose from. You can still tag users/celebrities that are not in your friends list, just make sure the username is entered exactly as it appears on PalZoo or it won't work. Now when browsing the photo gallery other members will have links in photos to other profile pages you have tagged. I want to leave a comment on a photo, how do I do that?
If you want to leave a comment on a photo, just click on the photo itself. This will take you to a page with a comment option
I want to rate some photos, how do I do that?
If you wish to rate some photos on the site, click on "gallery" and then on "rate". Here you can rate other photos, leave comments and see statistics on photos.
I see "battle" in the gallery, what is that?
Battle is like a competition of photos. Click on "gallery", then "battle". This will take you to the photo battle. Here you just decide which photo you like more, click on that photo and the page reloads with more photos to choose from. Click on "battle leaders" to see what photo is winning so far. To enter your photo in the battle, just upload a photo.
Searching/Browsing
How do I find people on the site?
In the top menu you will see a tab "browse". Here you can search many different ways to find people.
Use the drop-down menus to enhance your search. Click on "search". You will now be displayed with your results.
Click the "reset" button to reset your search criteria before beginning a new search.
You can also use the tabs to view "members online", "updated profiles", "featured members" and "new members".
Blogs
What is the News section for?
The News section at PalZoo is where we post news about celebrities, movies, tv shows and more. The most recent news is displayed on our home page and gets a lot of exposure. You can also browse our news section and find the most discussed news, most viewed news and find the members who have posted the most content. Leave comments and start discussions on any of the news you find interesting. You can also submit any of the News at Palzoo to Digg,Technorati,Facebook and many more using our bookmark feature underneath each post. Band accounts may post news that appears only on the PalZoo Music page. Please note that the news secion is only for news, not a place to put biographies. Since PalZoo streams a lot of our news to Twitter and MySpace we reserve the right to delete any news we feel is inappropriate.
Where does my news show up after I have submitted it? (Bands only)
Once you have submitted your news it will appear on the PalZoo Music page. Here the title and snippet of the most recent news is displayed along with your profile photo.
What is a top blogger?
A top blogger is a list of the members who have submitted the most blogs. In the blog section of the site you will see a list of the top bloggers members names. Click on their names to visit their profile.
What are the RSS buttons on the news page and what do they do?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts. An RSS document (which is called a "feed" or "web feed" or "channel") contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that can be piped into special programs or filtered displays.
RSS content can be read using software called an "RSS reader", "feed reader" or an "aggregator". The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds.
Forum
Do I have to register at the forum as well as at the site?
No, if you are a member of the site, you are automatically a member of the site forum.
How do I start a discussion in the forum?
Choose the category you would like to discuss in and click on the category title. Once inside that particular forum, click on "post topic". This will begin a new topic. Submit your first post and others can then reply.
I can't find topics I have started in the past. How can I find topics in the forum?
At the top of the forum you will see "view my topics". Click on this and it will list all topics you have started in the forum.
What does the "quote" link mean in the posts?
When you want to reply to someone's post and quote their reply in your new post, simply click on the "quote" link and the persons post you are replying to will appear in your new post as quoted text. This is useful when a long thread (discussion) is going on and you wish to quote someone who has posted pages before.
Polls
How do I create a poll?
If you wish to create a poll click on polls in the site menu. This will take you to the polls page. Then click on "create new poll". Now type in your question and 4 possible options to your poll and click submit. Your poll is now ready for all members to view. Recent polls are randonly displayed on the homepage.
How can I see who has taken my poll and the results?
When viewing your poll, click on view results. This will show you who has taken your poll and the percent of answers to each question you provided.
How do I delete a poll I created?
In the polls section, click on "delete my polls". This will provide a list of all the polls you have created with a delete X beside each one. Clicking on the X will delete the poll. Once the poll has been deleted it is gone and cannot be retrieved so make sure before deleting a poll.
Groups
What is a group?
A group is a collection of people all interested in the same topic that wish to get together to discuss like minded topics, share photos and meet new people interested in the same topic. A collective group of people interested in the same thing.
How do I create a group?
Go to the groups section of the site by clicking on groups in the site menu. This will take you to the groups category page. Take a look at the different categories we have for groups first and decide what category your group best fits into. Then click on "create a group".
Give your group a name. Try to make the name so it has something to do with what your group is about.
Give your group a headline. This is similar to your profile page headline. It is a sentence that appears as the headline of your group.
Provide a contact email. Make sure the email address you provide is a working email. If your group gets busy this is the email your group members will use to contact you.
Choose your group category.
Members can invite: yes or no This decides if members of your group are allowed to invite non-members to join your group.
Open join: yes or no This decides if anyone can join your group or if the group is set as private. Open join means anyone can click the link "join this group" and become a member. If set to no, they will need to apply to join the group and you will receive an email with their request.
Public forum: yes or no This decides if your group forum is available for the public to view. Set to yes, anyone may view your group forum. Set to no, only group members will be able to view your group forum.
Hidden group: yes or no This decides if your group shows to non-members. If set to yes your group will not be visible and people will only be able to join if you invite them. They will not be able to find or view your group. If set to no, the group is visible to all.
Members can post images: yes or no This decides if you are allowing your group members to upload photos to the group gallery. If set to yes all members will be able to contribute photos to the group gallery. If set to no, only you will be able to upload photos to the group gallery.
Country: Choose the country your group is based in. Most times you choose the country you are from. In cases where you want to target a certain memberbase, you might choose a different country.
City: Type in the city of the group. Most times this is the city where you reside.
State and ZIP: Only for United States residents, choose your state and your Zip. Again this is usually your own state and zip
Group image: Here you can upload an image which will display as the default group image. At any time you can change the default image of your group by entering the gallery of photos you have uploaded and choosing "default"
Description: Give a description of your group. What your group is about. You might type in your purpose of the group, what you hope to accomplish with the group. Anything you want can go here and it can be edited at any time in the future.
Music
Am I allowed to upload songs to the site?
If you are a musician you may upload your music to the site. If you are not a musician and do not own the content, please just use the music already provided on the site.
Can I change a song once I've uploaded it?
Yes. At any time you can click on "edit my music" and edit or delete any of the music you have uploaded to the site.
Do all the songs I've uploaded appear on my profile?
Yes. If you upload music to the site, all the songs appear in one player on your site.
What is the upload size limit on songs?
Each song cannot be more than 10mb.
How do I add a song to my profile?
Go to the music section of the site and browse through our artists. You can do this by browsing alphabetically or looking at our featured artists or featured songs. When you find a song you like, you will see a heart beside the artist or song. Click this and you should now see a music player on your profile page with that song.
How do I delete a song from my profile?
By clicking the heart icon again. By clicking a heart icon anywhere within PalZoo Music, you are adding that as a favorite. By clicking it again, you are removing it.
How do I get myself as a musician or my songs featured?
If you are a musician or band and would like to be included in our list of featured musicians or featured songs, please make sure you have content and photos. No band will be featured if they have not uploaded an artist photo. No album or song will be featured if it does not have a photo associated with it.
I want to let a musician know how much I like their music. How do I do this?
There are lots of ways to let a musician know you like their music. You can visit their profile and add yourself as a fan, leave a comment on their profile, or add them as one of your favourites. You can also leave comments on each individual song or album. In the music section you can comment and add to your favourites as well.
When browsing for music it drives me crazy when I search for "rap" music and someone has put a country song into the rap genre. Can you change this?
When musicians upload their music, they choose what genre (category of music) their song goes into. If you notice a major discrepancy in the choice of genre, please Contact Us with the name of the song and the musician. Even a link to the song would help. We can then decide if the song needs to be moved into a different genre. Musicians are not penalized in any way for this, it only helps if you let us know as then people will find their music easily.
Videos
Can I upload videos to the site?
At this time you cannot directly upload videos to the site. This will be coming in the near future. What you can do is stream direct from YouTube,MySpace,Google,Break and Spike. Just grab the url to the video on any of these sites and the video will stream direct to our site.
How do I stream a video?
Go to the videos section of the site. Click on "add video". Then click on "add video stream". Enter a title for your video and choose a category. Enter some tags (descriptive keywords) separated by spaces. Enter a description for your video. Choose where you are streaming the video from in the drop down selection (Either YouTube,Google etc). Enter the url of the video stream. Click "get video". The page will re-load and display your video.
Where do the videos appear after I have streamed them?
Once you have added a video stream it will appear on your profile page, in the video section of the site and as one of the most recent videos added on the homepage of the site.
How does my video become a "hot video" or a "featured video"?
If you would like your video in the "hot" or "featured" list just Contact US. We will take all submissions into consideration.
What are "Most Viewed" and "Most Discussed" videos?
Videos that have the most comments will appear in the "most discussed" area and videos that have received the most views will appear in the "most viewed" area.
How do I rate a video?
First choose a video to watch by clicking on the title of that video. Once there, you will see a rating with stars beside it. Click on the star according to how you wish to rate the video. Clicking on the first star is the lowest rating and clicking on the fifth star gives the highest rating.
Oops! I rated a video a 1 and meant to rate it a 5. Can you change it?
Sorry. Once you have rated the video the rating cannot be changed.
What does "save" mean under the video?
Clicking on save under a video will save that video to your favourites. It will now appear in your favourites list in your account and on your profile page. You can remove or change your favourites list at any time.
What does "share" mean under the video?
Clicking on share under a video will display a box for you to type in a members username. You then are sending the member this video to check out.
What does "report" mean under the video?
Clicking on report under a video will display a drop down box. This drop down box will ask you to choose why you are reporting the video. Choose one from the drop down list and submit. We are then notified of the report and will decide if the video should be removed from the site. Please know that constantly sending in false reports may cause your account to be deleted.
Quizzes
What is a quiz?
A quiz is a fun area of the site. Members can create quizzes and take quizzes. Quizzes can be about anything and adds a fun interactive section to the site. Quizzes consist of questions with a list of options to choose the right answer. You take the quiz and then get to see how you did.
Can anyone make a quiz?
Yes, all members of the site can create and take quizzes. There is no fee involved in creating a quiz.
How do I create a quiz?
Go to the Quizzes section of the site. Click on "create new quiz". Here you will find specific instructions on how to create a quiz. Read and follow the instructions carefully to make sure you are creating the quiz properly. All quizzes can be deleted by you if you should make an error.
I have created a lot of quizzes. Where can I find them in the big list of quizzes?
In the quizzes section click on "my quizzes". Here you will find a list of all the quizzes you have created along with an option to delete any of them.
Is there a limit on how many quizzes I can create?
No. We allow members to create as many quizzes as they like.
I created a quiz but I don't see it? Where did it go?
Once you have created your quiz, it must be approved before you will see it on the site. Most quizzes are approved the same day but due to different time zones, it might take up to 24 hours before you see your new quiz. If you feel you have waited longer than this, please Contact Us to make sure we haven't missed your quiz in the approval process.
My Account
What is the "My Account" link for on the menu?
Clicking on "my account" will take you to your control panel for your account. Here you can see a page with a list of your friends, Fan-Links Board with fan-links your friends have posted, a brief summary of your account information and your message center.
How do I change my password, email address or location?
Click on "my account", "my settings", then "account settings".
How do I change my privacy settings and email notification settings?
Click on "my account", "my settings', then "account settings".
How do I add information about myself to my profile page?
Click on "my account", "my settings", then "profile settings". Here you can fill in your profile page headline and all your interests.
How do I change my profile picture?
Click on "my account", "my settings", then "profile picture"
How do I change the design or look of my profile page?
Click on "my account", "my settings". If you wish to design your profile yourself by using CSS code or if you just want to upload a background or change colours, click on "design my profile".
What is the "my items" tab for in my account?
If you click on "my items" you will then be able to view, delete or edit any of the items you have submitted to the site. Such as photos, videos, polls, quizzes and music.
How do I arrange my friends?
In your my account area click on the tab "friends". Here you will be given the option on how many top friends you wish to display on your profile page. You can then drag and drop your friends from the list into the top spots. At any time you can remove friends from the top list by clicking on remove under their name. Friends can be deleted at any time as well by clicking delete under their name.
What is the favorites tab for?
In your my account area you can click on "favorites" and view anything you have made "your favorites" on the site. When visiting a video, photo, song or profile you can add them as your favorite.
If I deny or delete a friend request, does the person requesting know?
No. If you receive a friend request that you are not interested in, simply deny the request. The person who requested is never informed that you denied the request.
How do I invite my friends to join the site?
In your "my account" area you will see a tab called "invite". Click on this and you can then import your contacts from different email providers or you can send a message to a list of your friends email addresses.
My Profile
Can everyone see my profile?
You decide who can see your profile. In your account settings you can choose to make your profile private by checking the box that says "only my friends may view my profile". If set to private, when someone visits your page, your profile will not display. The visitor will be given a message that your profile is set to private and the option to request a friendship with you. Once you accept a friend request, they will then be able to view your profile.
Will only my friends be able to post comments on my profile page?
In your account settings you also have the option to decide who can post comments on your profile page. By checking "only friends may post comments" enables that only your friends you have approved may post comments. Leave this box unchecked and anyone visiting your profile will be able to post a comment.
Do I have to fill in the fields in my profile settings to appear on my page?
No. If you don't fill in a field such as "about me" in your profile settings, it just doesn't appear on your profile page. No empty boxes appear on your profile page, they are just left out if not filled in.
How do I make links clickable on my profile page?
To make a link clickable simply enter the link like this [link="http://www.google.com"]Google[/link] The word Google will now be clickable on your profile page.
Can I add widgets or gadgets to my profile page?
At this time only widgets or gadgets that are flash based can be used. Javascript will not work. Some blidgets will work. You can add your flash based widgets/gadgets into any field on your profile page or into comments for other members. Just paste the code into the field such as "music" in your profile settings and the flash based widgets should appear.
I only want my friends to view my photos in "my gallery" on my profile page. Can I do this?
Yes. When uploading your photos you have the choice on who will be able to view that photo. If you choose "only my friends" then your photo will only display to your friends in the "my gallery" area on your profile page. If you choose "everyone" then it will be displayed in the site photo gallery as well. You can also choose for only you to view your photo and then no one else will be able to see it.
