Vincent Price On The Muppets Actor Vincent Price Vincent Price

A man who limits his interests limits his life.

I sometimes feel that I'm impersonating the dark unconscious of the whole human race. I know this sounds sick, but I love it.

American actor, Vincent Price was the son of Marguerite Cobb (née Wilcox) and Vincent Leonard Price, Sr., who was the president of the National Candy Company. His grandfather, Vincent Clarence Price, invented "Dr. Price's Baking Powder," the first cream of tartar baking powder.

Price attended St. Louis Country Day School. He was further educated at Yale in art history and fine art.

He was a member of the Courtauld Institute, London.

He became interested in the theatre during the 1930s, appearing professionally on stage for the first time in 1935.

Price's last marriage was to the Australian actress Coral Browne, who appeared with him (as one of his victims) in “Theatre of Blood” (1973). He converted to Catholicism to marry her, and she became a U.S. citizen for him.

In 1951 Price donated some 90 pieces from his own art collection to East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, California, thus establishing the Vincent Price Art Museum, the first "teaching art collection" owned by a community college in the U.S. The collection contains over 9,000 pieces and has been valued in excess of $5 million.

He was an avid gourmet chef, he wrote a number of cookbooks.

Had his own mail-order book club in the 1970s, "Vincent Price Books," specializing in mystery and detective novels.

He won $32,000 in an appearance on the game show "The $64,000 Question" (1955).

Price was a lifelong smoker. He suffered from emphysema and Parkinson's disease.

He died of lung cancer on October 25, 1993, at UCLA Medical Center at the age of 82. He was cremated and his ashes scattered off Point Dume in Malibu, California.
