Actor and Comedian Steve Martin Steve Martin Playing Banjo Steve Martin

White-haired funny man extraordinaire and often confused for being an alumnus of the TV variety show Saturday Night Live (1976-2006) after his 20 show appearances, Steve Martin began his performance career as a high-school cheerleader and entertainer at Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm. It was during these stints that he developed his unusual talents for magic, juggling, playing the banjo, and creating balloon animals that he would use in his live comedy act.

His first professional splash was on the staff of The Smothers Brothers Show (1975), for which he won an Emmy Award as writer. More TV writing work followed, along with a few big-screen appearances in movies such as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978) and The Muppet Movie (1979), before he became a leading comic actor with films such as The Jerk (1979), All of Me (1984), and Three Amigos! (1986).

Martin first offered a dramatic performance in Pennies from Heaven (1981), and he renewed the experiment years later with greater success in Roxanne (1987). Ever since then he has alternated outright comedy in films such as Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987) with mixed comedy drama such as Parenthood (1989) and more poignant, straight dramatic roles in filsm such as Grand Canyon (1991).

Always productive, he has never stopped writing stage plays - Picasso at the Lapin Agile (1993) and its adapted screenplay, for one - and movie scripts, such as The Pink Panther (2006). He welcomed the twenty-first century as a box-office draw, with films such as Cheaper by the Dozen (2003) and its sequel; and a niche artist who can conjure ideas, bring them to the screen, and deliver the resulting film performance, as he demonstrates in Shopgirl (2005).

I believe that sex is the most beautiful, natural, and wholesome thing that money can buy.

Dated Anne Heche.

He is in the horn section of B.B. King's "In The Midnight Hour" music video.

Was on an episode of "The Dating Game" (1965) before he was famous in 1966. He won a date with an old friend named Marscha Walker, whom he had not seen in three years.

Was Warner Bros. second choice for the role of The Riddler in Batman Forever (1995) (after Robin Williams ). However he turned it down as with the death of his good friend John Candy and his divorce from Victoria Tennant he was too sad to make any movies.

Salary

Cheaper by the Dozen (2003) $10,500,000

Sgt. Bilko (1996) $7,000,000

The Jerk (1979) $600,000 and 50% of the profits
