Actress Jodie Foster Jodie Foster Beautiful In Pink Up Close With Jodie Foster Jodie Foster Beams In Burgundy Dress

An actress since she was a toddler, Jodie Foster would be forgiven for peaking early, comparatively speaking, but she's also one of the few child actors who managed a hugely successful transition to adult roles. Foster began her career through the typical episodic TV and kiddie movie route before making a significant impact as the underage prostitute in Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver (1976), which won her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She had previously worked for Scorsese in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), in which she already seemed more mature than many of the adults in the movie. Other kids fare awaited, as well as more ambitious projects, although much of Foster's career throughout the first half of the 1980s was sidelined by her commitment to studies in English literature at Yale University.

Foster truly emerged as a major adult star with her two Best Actress Oscar-winning performances in The Accused (1988) and The Silence of the Lambs (1991), and she also made an auspicious directing debut with Little Man Tate (1991). But then what happened? She has spoken of a desire to focus more on her family, but nonetheless, her stardom of the late 1980s and early 1990s seems diminished when one examines the film roles that she selected during this period, excepting Nell (1994), perhaps. Working rather sporadically during this era anyway, Foster would largely coast through movies such as Maverick (1994), Contact (1997), and Flightplan (2005), roles she previously could have tackled in her sleep. Undeniably brilliant and extraordinarily talented, Foster may have lost interest in the craft after hitting the high notes while so young. She has at least continued directing with the legal drama Sugarland (2008), starring herself and Robert De Niro.

Being understood is not the most essential thing in life.

Cruelty might be very human, and it might be cultural, but it's not acceptable.

As a child, was attacked by a lion and carried briefly in its mouth while filming Disney's Napoleon and Samantha (1972).

Fluent in French by age 14

Was stalked by John Hinckley during her college years, who attempted to assassinate US President Ronald Reagan to impress her (30 March 1981).

She was fluent in Italian by the age of 18.

An asteroid, 17744 Jodiefoster, was named after her (1998).

Turned down the role of "Violet" for Pretty Baby (1978)

Turned down the role of "Catherine Tramell" for Basic Instinct (1992)

Turned down the lead role for Adventures in Babysitting (1987)

Turned down the role of Angel in Little Darlings (1980).
