House TV Show Painting of Hugh Laurie of House TV Series House TV Series House TV Series Starring Hugh Laurie

Gregory House may have been a brilliant physician but his bedside manner left much to be desired. Scruffy and sarcastic ("Humanity's overrated"), he walked with a cane, the result of a leg damaged by an infarction several years earlier. However the moody, irritable doc and his team had a remarkable facility for diagnosing the mysterious diseases that afflicted their critically ill patients at New Jersey's Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. They specialized in cases in which the symptoms were misleading and it wasn't until they had tried a number of failed treatments (often nearly killing the patient) that one of them, usually House, found the real cause of, and solution to, their condition. The three young members of House's team, who tolerated his personality because they marveled at his diagnostic insights, were neurologist Foreman, immunologist Cameron and intensive care specialist Chase. House had an ongoing battle with Cuddy, the administrator to whom he reported, because she resented his attitude and, like the others, only put up with him because he was so good. When she was particularly angry with him, she would force him to treat walk-in patients in the hospital's clinic, which he despised. House's one real friend at the hospital was oncologist Wilson, who frequently wondered if the friendship was worth the aggravation.

In March 2005 House alienated billionaire Edward Vogler, the new chairman of the board and they were constantly at odds. Cuddy struggled to convince Vogler that House's work was essential to the hospital, but Vogler pushed to have him fired. When Cuddy convinced the board not to fire him, Vogler left and took the $100 million he had committed to the hospital with him. Later in the year Cuddy hired House's married ex-girlfriend, Stacy, as attorney for Princeton-Plainsboro. There were sparks, despite their contentious relationship, but she departed in February after he rejected her offer to leave her husband for him.

That October House got into serious trouble when Detective Tritter, one of the myriad patients he had alienated over the years, arrested him for drug possession. House was addicted to the Vicodin he used to ease the pain in his right leg. Tritter charged him with forging illegal prescriptions using Wilson's name and put pressure on everyone to help him nail House. In January, when Cuddy lied to the judge to keep House from being tried for filling a dead patient's prescription for his own use, Tritter threw in the towel.

Although the onscreen title for this series was House, M.D., all of the promotion and the TV listings ignored the "M.D."

The aerial shots of the hospital are actually of the back of Frist Student Center at Princeton University.

The motorcycle that Dr. House owns is a 2005 Honda CBR1000RR Repsol Replica.

Robert Sean Leonard was the first actor to be cast.

In several episodes, House is show at home and his address 221B, a tribute to Sherlock Holmes famous London address, 221B Baker Street.

Dr. Gregory House: Everybody lies.
