Hot Tub Time Machine is an upcoming science fiction comedy film being produced by United Artists/MGM. It stars John Cusack, Lyndsy Fonseca, Chevy Chase, Rob Corddry, Clark Duke, and Craig Robinson. The film is directed by Steve Pink. It is scheduled for release on March 26, 2010. The film is rated R for drug use, aggressive language, and some strong sexual references. This film may be intended to be a tribute to 80's comedy films such as National Lampoon's Vacation and Weird Science, as it included veterans from the decade such as Cusack, Chase, William Zabka and Crispin Glover.

Plot summary

A group of best friends have had a string of bad luck with their adult lives: Adam (John Cusack) has been dumped by his girlfriend; Lou (Rob Corddry) is a party guy who cannot find the party; Nick’s (Craig Robinson) wife controls his every move; and Adam’s video game obsessed nephew Jacob (Clark Duke) will not leave his basement.

After a crazy night of drinking in a ski resort hot tub, the men wake up, heads pounding, in the year 1986. The protagonists can see each other as their proper age, but when they look at their reflections and to everyone else they appear as they did in 1986. The quartet of men are at first concerned they must not mess anything up but then decide this may be a chance from God to change their destinies and get the futures (and women) they wanted.

Production

Steve Pink directed and Josh Heald wrote the picture. It was filmed in Vancouver and Fernie, British Columbia.

Marketing

The first and Red Band trailer for the film appeared at Comic-Con 2009 and on the internet on July 24, 2009. The movie will also be screened for free in over 50 cities in the weeks leading up to its release.

Succeeds beyond any expectations suggested by the title and extends John Cusack's remarkable run: Since 1983, in 55 films, he's never made a bad one. Reviewed by: Roger Ebert of The Chicago Sun-Times

Hot Tub Time Machine should have been better than this. It could have been poignant. Reviewed by: Peter Travers of Rolling Stone.

The movie itself is a nonstop barrage - somewhere between a riot and an orgy - of crude, obnoxious gags and riffs. If you are a connoisseur of sexual, scatological or just plain stupid humor, you will find your appetite satisfied, even glutted. Reviewed by: A.O. Scott of The New York Times.
