Heroes TV Series The Cast Of Heroes Looking Down On Heroes Heroes Animated

This serialized sci-fi yarn resembled a comic book in both style and structure. Ordinary people around the world had begun to discover that they had different types of powers, apparently given to them to help avert some kind of looming cataclysm and "save the world." The powers came with no rule book, and most were afraid to even reveal them. Seventeen-year-old Texas cheerleader Claire discovered that no matter how she injured herself, she would immediately heal. Internet stripper Niki had an alter ego (Jessica) who had superhuman strength and murderous tendencies that Nikki could not control. Niki's young son Micah also had powers, the ability to control electronics with his mind. Nurse Peter could absorb the powers of others, while his politician brother Nathan could fly. Hiro was a nerdy Japanese computer programmer and comics fan who could time travel and teleport himself (he teleported from Tokyo to the U.S. to "follow his destiny," bringing along his friend Ando). L.A. beat cop Matt could hear people's thoughts. Tormented New York artist Isaac found himself painting future disasters, including the world in flames. And jail inmate D.L. Hawkins (Micah's father) had the handy ability to walk through walls. Searching for this random collection of special people was Mohinder, a young genetics professor from Madras, India, whose father had begun to investigate them but had mysteriously disappeared.

The superheroes had good reason to keep their powers secret as they soon found they were being tracked by a mysterious organization called Primatech and perhaps by others who wanted to harvest their super-DNA for themselves. Claire's step-dad Mr. Bennet was connected with Primatech, although her step-mom Sandra was unaware of this. Bennet's ominous agent The Haitian could wipe clean the memories of those who learned too much. There was also a superhero serial killer named Sylar on the prowl. Over the course of the first season the "heroes" gradually discovered their powers, each other, and clues to their mission (one of the first being "Save the cheerleader, save the world"). Some, including Isaac and Simone, were killed as the epic battle unfolded. In the season finale Sylar appeared to have been killed, while Peter became a nuclear bomb destined to destroy New York - but was flown into the stratosphere by Nathan and exploded there instead. Hiro foresaw alternate futures turning out differently, however.

The premiere episode on NBC attracted 14.3 million viewers overall and received the highest rating for any NBC drama premiere in five years.

Hiro Nakamura: Save the cheerleader, save the world.
