CSI Crime Scene Investigation Wins People's Choice Award CSI Crime Scene Investigation The Cast Of CSI Crime Scene Investigation

08/19/2008 16:45:39

Gil Grissom was a senior forensics officer working in the Criminalistics Bureau of the Las Vegas Police Department. A calm and relentless investigator, Grissom and his team used all of the advanced techiques available to analyze evidence found at crime scenes and determine how the crimes, mostly gruesome murders, had been committed. Grissom's primary assistant was Catherine, a veteran investigator who had worked her way through college as a stripper. She was divorced and raising a young daughter. Others on the team were Warrick, whose analytical skills were complemented by his extensive knowledge of the gambling world of Las Vegas; Nick, the hunky guy who was very competitive with Warrick; and Sara, the rookie, who buried herself in work because she had problems with social relationships. Others seen regularly were Brass, their surly former boss who had been reassigned to himocide; Dr. Robbins, the chief medical examiner; Phillips, Dr. Robbins' assistant, and Greg, an eccentric, but very bright, lab technician.

Most episodes of CSI covered two separate and unrelated cases, with the members of the team working diligently to piece together the evidence that would help the police solve the crimes. There were graphic close-ups of the individual bits of evidence and the crimes (for example, the camera zooming up a nostril), along with constantly altered reconstructions of the events as the investigators pondered the various ways the crime might have been committed.

In the spring of 2002 Grissom was diagnosed with a degenerative hearing disorder, and during the 2002-2003 season there were several occasions on which he suffered temporary hearing loss. In February 2003 Catherine's ex-husband died from a gunshot wound.

In the 2003 spring finale Grissom had surgery to deal with his hearing problems. That fall Greg was promoted from lab tech to field investigator and, in November, the teams were split when Ecklie, their boss, promoted Catherine to head the swing shift team with Nick and Warrick. Gil kept the graveyard shift with Sara, Greg and Sofia Curtis. In the season-ending two-parter, in which Nick was buried alive by a nutcase, Gil told Ecklie he wanted his team back together.

The 2005-2006 season began with the team reunited under Grissom's leadership and Sofia, who had been a recurring character, was promoted from CSI to detective and became a regular. Lab tech Hodges, who had spent most of his time in the lab, went into the field for the first time. At the end of the season viewers were shown that Grissom was having an affair with Sara.

All the equipment in the lab is fully functional, and was either purchased outright, or donated/loaned to the show for product placement.

The choice to place this series in Las Vegas was not random. Among US crime labs, Las Vegas is the second most active, surpassed only by the FBI lab at Quantico, Virginia.

Gil Grissom: I can't tell whether he's brilliant or nuts.
Captain Jim Brass: Sound familiar?

[after telling Grissom something that Grissom already knows]
Greg Sanders: I guess I should stop trying to impress you.
Gil Grissom: That would impress me.

Dr. Al Robbins: Hand me that foot, would you?
