Actor Andy Garcia Andy Garcia Andy Garcia And Al Pacino In The Godfather Part III

Tagged By: The-Untouchables

Born in Havana, Cuba in 1956, Andy Garcia came with his family to the United States in the early 1960s after the Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba. Growing up in Miami while his family prospered in the perfume business, he began acting at Florida International University and in regional theater before moving to Hollywood. He first attracted notice with roles in TV shows such as Hill Street Blues (1981 - 1984), and movies such as 8 Million Ways to Die (1986), but it was a costarring role in Brian De Palma's The Untouchables (1987) that made him a major star. Since then, he has starred in many films and recently made the move to writing and directing with The Lost City (2005), starring himself, Bill Murray, and Dustin Hoffman.

After The Untouchables Garcia starred in such films as Black Rain (1989) and Internal Affairs (1990). He next landed the part of Vincent "Vinnie" Mancini, the illegitimate son of Sonny Corleone, in Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather: Part III (1990). The character of Vincent, whose temper and ruthlessness matched that of his father, allowed Garcia to display his wide acting range and earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The part cemented his status as a solid, if not spectacular, Hollywood star, capable of both lead and support roles in a slate of films as diverse as When a Man Loves a Woman (1994) to Modigliani (2004). Garcia recently renewed his public profile by starring in the successful remake Ocean's Eleven (2001) and its sequel Ocean's Twelve (2004). He also garnered critical respect for his helming of The Lost City, in which he also stars as nightclub owner Fico Fellove in the time frame of the collapse of President Fulgencio Batista's regime in Cuba, and Fidel Castro's revolutionary takeover of the country.

"I spent seven years without working, so if they're making cop movies, I'll play cops. I got two kids to bring up."

"You are defined by who you are, by your choices in life, in all regards, not just in doing movies."

Was born as a conjoined twin. His twin was no bigger than a tennis ball and was surgically removed. All that remains is a scar on his shoulder.

Refuses to do nude scenes. He once walked out of a audition when asked to remove his shirt.

Fact: Owns 25 conga drums, collects hats, and wears a beret in the winter.

Turned down the role of "Detective Mac Taylor" (The character played by Gary Sinise) on the popular CBS crime drama "CSI: NY" (2004).

Long time friend of actor Mickey Rourke. Has said that Rourke was his high school baseball coach.
