Almost Famous is a 2000 comedy-drama coming-of-age film written and directed by Cameron Crowe. It tells the fictional story of a teenage rock journalist writing for Rolling Stone magazine while covering the fictitious rock band Stillwater and his efforts to get his first cover story published. The film is semi-autobiographical, as Crowe himself was a teenage writer for Rolling Stone.

Peter Frampton taught Billy Crudup how to play the guitar in preparation for the concert scenes.

The film's production took 92 days.

Featuring over 50 songs, the film's music budget was $3.5 million.

During the opening credits, the hand that's writing on the notepad belongs to Cameron Crowe.

Patrick Fugit grew three inches while filming and consequently, co-star Billy Crudup had to wear platforms to balance it out.

Patrick Fugit's voice broke during filming.

Penny Lane dancing in the empty, debris-strewn Cleveland auditorium is Cameron Crowe's favourite scene in the movie.

Russell Hammond: I'm never as good as when you're there.

Penny Lane: I always tell the girls, never take it seriously, if ya never take it seriously, ya never get hurt, ya never get hurt, ya always have fun, and if you ever get lonely, just go to the record store and visit your friends.

Penny Lane: We are not Groupies. Groupies sleep with rock stars because they want to be near someone famous. We are here because of the music, we inspire the music. We are Band Aids.

William Miller: I love you. And I'm about to boldly go where... many men have gone before.

Lester Bangs: Don't let those swill merchants rewrite you.

Oh, what a lovely film. I was almost hugging myself while I watched it. Reviewed by: Roger Ebert of The Chicago Sun-Times.

If you haven't already sold your soul to rock & roll, Almost Famous should seal the deal. Reviewed by: Peter Travers of Rolling Stone.

What Mr. Crowe has done is nonetheless remarkable. He has made a movie about sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll that you would be happy to take your mother to see. Reviewed by: Dana Stevens of The New York Times.

Sharply observed, bittersweet and suffused with the kind of detail that only someone who lived through the era could summon up, Crowe's script is funny, heartfelt and very cool. Reviewed by: Stephen Miller of TV Guide.

Parents need to know that a teen girl attempts suicide. Some moderate expletives, but fairly tame given the setting. These rock musicians on the road in the 1970s engage in all the bad behavior you might expect -- drinking, casual sex, drugs -- but the behavior is never glorified and is shown to be self-destructive. The lead character loses his virginity to a trio of bored girls. Brief partial nudity. A few arguments lead to mild brawls among friends. Reviewed by: Common Sense Media.
